WATER , SANITATION & HYGIENE
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet millions of people around the world still lack this basic necessity. SCF recognizes the dire consequences of water scarcity and contamination, particularly in impoverished communities. Under its “Water and Sanitation” theme, SCF works tirelessly to bridge this gap by providing communities with access to safe drinking water sources.
SCF’s commitment to water access extends beyond immediate relief. The organization actively promotes sustainable water management practices. This includes the development of renewable energy solutions to power water sources used for agricultural purposes and household consumption. By doing so, SCF not only addresses the urgent needs of communities but also contributes to the long-term preservation of vital natural resources. Sanitation facilities are often overlooked, but they play a crucial role in public health and human dignity. Poor sanitation can lead to the spread of diseases, particularly in densely populated and underserved areas. SCF understands the significance of sanitation and actively works to provide communities with access to proper sanitation facilities. Through its sanitation initiatives, SCF seeks to enhance hygiene standards and improve overall health outcomes. The provision of clean and safe sanitation facilities empowers individuals to lead healthier lives with dignity. Moreover, SCF’s approach goes beyond mere infrastructure; it includes community education on hygiene practices to ensure that the benefits are sustained over time.
SCF has implemented a number of WASH projects in Jamshoro , Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan districts with support of The Consulate General Japan, Karachi. The project achieved; 23000 flood affected population have access to safe drinking water and latrine facilities and hence improved their health status. The targeted communities were also provided with awareness on personal health and hygiene. SCF also implemented project Community Based Water Supply project in 10 villages of District -TM Khan with support of Association of Development of Pakistan USA. The project ensured availability and access to water facilities to 5060 flood affected population and created awareness on personal health and hygiene. With the support of UNDP under its disaster resilient communities project in which provided latrine and water facilities to the 100 households. Health education and awareness is the core part of the WASH program. SCF also promoted awareness on washing hands practices and demonstration in communities in urban and rural areas of its targeted areas mainly in Hyderabad and Matairi districts of Sindh. Currently SCF is implementing project of Safe water project in Matiari district and provided hand pumps to the 100 households with support of Muslim Charity UK and Indigo Textile. Currently SCF is implementing project social mobilization of Open defecation free villages in district Matiari with support of Local Govt Department Govt of Sindh. The project is being implemented in 600 villages and is 30 months of worth is in mid of its implementation. SCF will now have completed its task to certify the 200 villages as ODF free villages.SCF is planning to expand its WASH recovery in flood effected villages.
Water and Sanitation in Emergency
SCF also provided the safe drinking ring water services for one months to 1000 people living in camps outside the road in Takluka Saeebaad of Matiari District and also provided them mosquito nets. SCF field staff also carried the health and hygiene sessions in camps .In this regards SCF also conducted mobile services units/MSU camps which provided health treatment-counseling in five districts of Sindh. SCF arranged 12 mobile health camps equipped with medicines, qualified female doctors and paramedics staff. SCF has also conducted Need Assessment in the context of early recovery and in process of the designing early recovery interventions in health, shelter, protection, WASH, WASH and livelihoods sectors. SCF has trained and qualified human resource in effective humanitarian response, accountability, financial management, project cycle management, international humanitarian coordination system, response trained by Concern worldwide. SCF has also membership with National Humanitarian Network and various clusters activated by UNOCHA including WASH, Shelter, protection, Health. SCF provided dewatering support in village Bagoo Kaka of Saeedbaad Taluka one of the most badly impacted villages where population and agriculture land was under water. SCF provided dewatering support and cleared 500 acres lands in the villages including underwater houses and cleared the path for walking.
